June 19, 2018, Colby College, Nevola Symposium

June 19, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Civil Discourse: The Outward and Inward Work of Bridging Divides and Finding Peace in the Face of Differences

This is the title of this year’s Nevola Symposium on Spirituality and Health at Colby College, Waterville, Maine. Register and learn more here.

At this year’s Symposium Craig Freshley will offer two workshops where he will discuss the Make Shift Coffee House model. Participants will actually experience a Make Shift Coffee House as part of each workshop.

The Nevola Symposium is sponsored by the Thomas Nevola, MD Memorial Fund, the Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency, and MaineGeneral Medical Center. The mission of the Nevola Symposium is to offer quality education that emphasizes interaction and dialogue; facilitate networking and conversation among and across disciplines; and promote personal refreshment and rejuvenation. Since its inception, the Symposium has been coordinated by long-time residency faculty member Frederic Craigie, PhD.

This year’s symposium is in partnership with the National Institute for Civil Discourse, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that was founded in Tucson in the wake of the Gabby Giffords shootings, and that has done remarkable work nationally and particularly in Maine around promoting dialogue, civility and understanding among people with substantial differences.

The keynote presenter will be Carolyn Lukensmeyer, PhD, who is the NICD Executive Director.  See https://nicd.arizona.e
